Awareness and Advocacy
Our signature Team Unbreakable Fathers Day 5K Run/Walk event encourages broad participation, raises money and helps bring people closer to the issues raising awareness and helping reduce the stigma of mental illness. Our seminars & community speaking engagements in conjunction with our social media strategy will build awareness to the issues and identify resources including links to articles, videos, research data and where to find help.
Team Unbreakable Fathers Day 5K Run Walk
Originally established as the Find A Way 5K Run /Walk but is being renamed Team Unbreakable Fathers Day 5k after the 2011 event.
This event encourages broad family participation helping bring people closer to the issues, raising awareness and helping reduce the stigma attached to mental illness.
It is also the perfect culmination event for week 13 of the Team Unbreakable Youth Running Therapy Program
In addition to raising awareness about the issues and helping reduce stigma, this family based event is an effective fundraiser.
Seminars – Corporate, Community & Organization
This is a focused speaking program targeted and customizable for a variety of community based audiences to raise awareness and help reduce stigma. It has been developed over the past five years and includes printed handouts and a professional video presentation.
The presentation can be customized for a specific audience area of interest or for a local CameronHelps chapter to add their own local content to it. Depending on the target audience, it can also provide educational content which has proven to be of particular interest to parents and educators. This content includes such things as how to recognize warning signs, where to go for help, etc.
While the presentation is primarily for awareness building and stigma reduction, it can effectively be used to support fundraising activities. We are leading the CameronHelps chapter development with The Team Unbreakable Youth Running Therapy Program with the next programs to be implemented by the local chapter being the Seminars and the Team Unbreakable Fathers Day 5K Run Walk
Team Unbreakable Marathon Partnership and Relay Challenge
This is a partnership development activity with local community based marathons such as the Mississauga Marathon. These marathons often support several charities as part of their overall community support activities.
We have developed a partnership program with Mississauga Marathon wherein they help us build awareness of CameronHelps. For instance, our founder David Harris has permanent access to runner’s bib #23 which was Cameron’s favourite sports number. They do an annual media feature on CameronHelps and provide a no charge display table at their registration event where we can gain exposure.
We are working with them to develop a relay challenge that is conducted within the actual marathon which could include alumni of The Team Unbreakable Youth Running Therapy Program. Working with such established, well regarded and well attended organizations, provides a significant exposure opportunity to thousands of participants at each event.
Advocacy
One of our goals is to heighten awareness so that more resources are applied towards Youth Mental Health. This is all about helping youth get help. The objective is to raise youth mental health and suicide awareness and reduce stigma to foster early intervention and treatment. With a heightened focus, the goals are:
(i) early adoption of preventative programs including those based upon the strong co-relation between mental and physical health and
(ii) implementing such programs with sector partners such as government, health organizations, schools and community organizations
It is expected that the majority of our efforts in this area will be such things as press releases and media kits which explain the relationship between physical fitness and mental health and update the media / public as to the latest developments including our own clinical work from The Team Unbreakable Youth Running Therapy Program
