Save The Teens: Preventing Suicide, Depression, and Addiction

CameronHelps has friends and supporters across Canada and internationally. One of our supporters is Carolyn Zahnow who lives near Raleigh, North Carolina. Carolyn is the founder of “Save the Teens”, a U.S.-based grassroots organization that is teaching parents and teachers about the signs of teen depression and substance abuse.

Carolyn has written a book called Save The Teens: Preventing Suicide, Depression, and Addiction which is about her experience with her son, who ended his life by committing suicide. It is available for $20.00 by contacting johnk@cameronhelps.ca.

Here is how Dr. Martha Giles of George Mason University has reviewed the book: “A tragic but powerful story of a mother’s loss and the positive way in which she used her loss for good. As a former educator, this is an excellent guide for parents and teachers. It should be a must-read for all in order to help us understand suicide, to recognize the signs of a potential suicide, and especially how to prevent it.”

The book explains her son’s final day and the depression he was battling that eventually led to a dependency on drugs. The author takes us on a journey of despair and hope with her ultimate aim to educate others about what to look for when teens may be “at risk.” Carolyn provides information on drug addiction, signs to look for when one may be suicidal, and where to go for help and advice.

We look forward to seeing Carolyn in one of her visits to Canada.
